How to check in books
To check in means to return a book. A student who is checking in a book wants to bring it back to the library.
Steps to check in a book: 1. Take the book from the student. 2. Select “Check In” from the left side menu. 3. Scan the book. 4. Place the book in the big cardboard box. 5. Run “Copy Check” or “Check In” to make sure that the book(s) have been checked in. 6. Run all books through the security device. Make sure that the yellow light is under the icon of a bookshelf with a book moving towards the shelf. 7. Place the book on the “Returns” shelves. Non-fiction goes on the left; fiction goes in the middle. |
How to renew booksTo renew means to extend the due date. A student who is renewing a book wants to keep the book for more time.
Steps to renew a book: 1. Ask for ID. a. If student has no ID, he/she cannot renew the book. IF BOOK IS OVERDUE BY MORE THAN THREE DAYS, DO NOT RETURN THE BOOK TO THE STUDENT. 2. Select “Renew” from the left side menu. 3. Scan the book. 4. Make sure that the name on the screen matches the student’s name on the ID. 5. Date the book with the date stamp next to the computer. Check to make sure the date is correct. 6. Give the book to the patron and remind him/her of the due date. |
How to check out booksTo check out means to borrow it. A student who is checking out a book wants to take it out of the library.
Steps to check out a book: 1. Ask for ID. a. If student has no ID, place the book on hold. Take a small piece of paper, write the student’s last name and then first name, and date the paper. Using a rubber band, place the paper following the spine of the book. Place the book on the “Holds” shelf. 2. Select “Check In” from the left side menu. 3. Enter the student’s name. If more than one result appears, select the correct one. Make sure the correct name appears on the screen. 4. Scan the book. 5. Make sure that the name of the book and the due date appear on the screen. 6. Run the book through the security device. Make sure that the yellow light is under the icon of an open door with a book going out. 7. Date the book with the date stamp next to the computer. Check to make sure the date is correct. 8. Give the book to the patron and remind him/her of the due date. |
